What a superb post and photos on Holbox. We love traveling to Mexico and especially Tulum, but had never heard of this place. It looks very unique and not nearly as busy. I’ve saved your post on Pinterest for future reference. Will definitely make a point of visiting one day soon. Great Post!

In reply to Mei and Kerstin. That trip sounds amazing, I really hope you're able to go soon! I haven't explored Quintana Roo in depth so I can't comment on, say, Playa del Carmen. However, Holbox and Bacalar are stunning and absolutely worth spending a few days there if you can. Especially if you plan on passing from Cancun down to Belize, Bacalar is on the way and the lagoon is insanely beautiful. I am looking forward to all your posts when you get to do this trip!!

We had booked a trip to Mexico, Guatemala and Belize for this coming July, but it is/will be canceled due to Covid. At first we had planned to include Holbox in our itinerary but then we wouldn’t have enough time to explore some archaeological sites in Belize, so we ended up excluding Holbox. But after reading your post – and since we can re-plan everything again – we’ll try to include Holbox when we go to Mexico – hopefully- next year!

I’ve only been to Tijuana in Mexico so reading about places like Holbox is inspiring to go back. Especially because I love the ocean and I am particularly interested in seeing the Bioluminescent plankton!

Sorry to read about your disappointment of not being able to capture your plankton experience with a camera or video recorder.
I guess, these days is easy to fall after photoshopped photos.
But then again, I find the best moments and the best experience in life not to be Instagrammable. And I don’t care. 😉
