In my travels in Latin America, I have seen that people there are very religious, but I would have not expected to see all these churches and the largest church in the Western hemisphere in Sao Paulo. Your photos of the insides of the churches are incredible. We got all templed out when we visited lots of temples in Japan and I am afraid the same thing may happen with all the churches in Sao Paulo.

The largest church in the west? Crazy. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Brazil is the largest Catholic country in the world (in terms of population). I just would have guessed the church would be in a bigger city. Christmas mass there must be an event.

Wow! We had no idea that the church of Aparecida is the second largest one in the world! Well, the largest one must be the Vatican then? If we ever visit Brazil, we’ll try to spend a day or two in this town then. Thanks for sharing this, as we had never heard of Aparecida!

Cool suggestion to see Aparacida, which is a smaller city between two larger ones. Great way to get a feel for the people of the country.

Wow, I would have never thought that the 2nd biggest church in the world is not in Italy!
All of the churches are gorgeous, especially the Igreja de Sao Benedito.
And yes, you have definitely convinced me to consider Aparecida if I get to go to Brazil. Such an interesting place!

Thank you for always introducing me to new places I’ve never heard about or am not familiar with! The panoramic view from Passarela da Fé is stunning and I love the contrast between nature and the buildings. Igreja de São Benedito totally reminds me of Greece too and I’d love to see it someday. And the food!!! Seems like I really need to plan a trip to Brazil next year!

Second largest church in the world, wow! That’s amazing. Such a beautiful basilica.
Aparecida sounds like a lovely place to visit. The hike up to the statue of the Virgin Mary sounds awesome (as do the souvenirs of the same!).
