In reply to Lola La Paz. It has been such an amazing experience both culturally and personally. There is so much to do, so many amazing restaurants and bars to explore, and since it's the capital of the country, there are always cheap, direct flights to basically every other large and medium-sized city in Mexico. There are of course issues such as bad traffic, but there are also so many good things, like perfect weather the whole year!

Wow! I’ve never heard of Bacalar and it looks like a dream. The colours of that water and the cheap and tasty food and drinks would make it a perfect getaway. As a Canadian, I’m always looking for the perfect winter escape and this fits the bill.

What an incredible little slice of the globe! We love our time in the Mayan Riviera, and often comment how we need to spend time exploring further south along the coast. This would be such a great place to do just that, a place we could really experience a more authentic feel. That Lagoon of Seven Colors is amazing and camping would be so much fun for our kids.

This sounds like my kind of place and I like how laid back it seems and that it doesn’t have a touristy vibe. I’ve made a note of it and when it comes time to head to Mexico I will be looking to Bacalar!

Seeing this post makes me dream of going back to Mexico. I’ve been a couple of times but one way or another never visited Bacalar. It looks like a cool getaway for a weekend or midweek break. How do you like living in Mexico City?
